Delhi's Saket Court on Tuesday framed charges of murder and disappearance of evidence against Aaftab Poonawala in the Shraddh Walkar murder case, although he pleaded not guilty.
During the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Manisha Khurana Kakkar said that Poonawal was charged with offenses under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing evidence of an offence) to disappear, in a charge sheet filed by the Delhi Police January 24th.
Poonawala, who contested the allegations leveled against him, demanded a trial in the case. The matter will be discussed further on June 1.
It is to be noted that Poonawala is accused of killing Walkar and cutting her body into several pieces. The cold-blooded murder of Walkar sent shockwaves across the country after the incident came to light.
